This kit includes band sizes ranging from 0 to 5. Your goal is to find the lowest band size that helps you wake up feeling rested.
Waking up feeling rested and having more energy throughout the day is the most important factor to understand if your Daybreak Device and band settings are working. Another helpful indicator can be a reduction in snoring. These are the signals we use to help you identify when you have achieved a perfect fit.
Unless you are experiencing jaw pain, we recommend waiting two weeks before making changes to your band size.
If you have already tried the suggestions under the Addressing Discomfort section and still continue to experience jaw soreness, decrease your bands by one band size.
Please call (844) 310-7700 or email support@thedaybreak.com to let us know if the soreness persists or becomes painful. We want to work with you to reduce jaw soreness and eliminate pain. You can also schedule an optimization video call session here.
Pro Tip: Consistently using the Rise & Bite for 5 to 10 minutes when you wake up will help maintain your natural bite alignment and reduce soreness.
You can change your bands if you’re not getting the full benefits of the Daybreak Device. Try increasing your band size if you still feel tired or if a partner (or snoring app) says you’re still snoring loudly. While you may never completely stop snoring, the Daybreak Device will help reduce it.
It’s important to increase your band size gradually. Wear each size for at least one week before making changes. This slow adjustment helps your jaw get used to the new band size and prevents jaw pain or injury.
We recommend waiting two weeks before increasing the band size to give symptoms like snoring time to improve and to help your jaw move forward more comfortably at night.
Before you remove any bands or make any changes, please gather your device and the pack of bands that came in your box. If you use reading glasses, now is the time to grab those, too!
Take a moment to look at your device and identify the following:
To remove the existing bands, hold the mouthpiece with one hand and firmly hold onto the end of the band with your other hand and push to unlock. Once the button is in the middle of the band channel it will be easier to gently twist and pull it off.
Pro Tip: When you remove your existing bands, place them back in the correct band package in case you need to revert back to this size again.
Select two bands from the new band size. Identify the small bump that sticks up on one side of the band (Side A).
Pro Tip: To more easily identify side A, use your phone to take a picture and zoom in to confirm that you can see the “bump” on the band.
Select the Top Mouthpiece.
Pro Tip: If you need to make sure it is the Top Mouthpiece, you can always try it on.
With the “bump” on side A facing up, insert the blue button on the Top Mouthpiece into the middle of the band channel. While holding onto the mouthpiece, use other hand to pull the band until the button is locked in place at the end of the band.
Check that you have attached the band correctly. The bump should be facing towards the back teeth when the band is at 90 degrees/perpendicular to the mouthpiece.
Pro Tip: It doesn’t matter which band you use, so long as you confirm the bump is on the top of the device and oriented as shown in the photo.
Repeat on the second side.
Pro Tip: Confirm the bump is on the top of the device and oriented as shown in the photo.
Attach side B of the bands (the end without the bump) to the Bottom Mouthpiece.
When you’re done, the small “bump” should be attached to the button on the Top Mouthpiece and facing upwards.
Pro Tip: Ensure the bands are in the proper orientation as shown in the photo above. The “bridge’ in the middle of the band should appear in a horizontal position like an equal (=) sign.
If you have any questions or want to get your band placement checked by an expert from our team, please take a photo of the left, center, and right side of your device and send it to your Daybreak Support Team here: support@thedaybreak.com.
Wear your device every night. You are on your way to getting better sleep and improving your health. Finding your ideal band size may require several adjustments and typically takes about one month to optimize.
We will repeat your sleep test to ensure you are being treated effectively.
Pro Tip: We’re here for you!! Please reach out to customer support for any questions that you may have.
You should be able to easily remove your Daybreak Device using your fingers. If you experience any difficulty, you can also use the tool provided.
As with any retainer, it can take some time to adjust. If you experience severe pain from wearing your device that does not subside after several minutes, remove the device and contact us at support@thedaybreak.com.
During the first week of nightly use, you may experience some jaw tenderness. This generally subsides within a few days. Over-the-counter pain medications and warm compresses can help relieve some discomfort, and jaw stretching exercises can alleviate morning jaw soreness. Please see the Jaw Stretch Exercises video, courtesy of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
If you experience discomfort when advancing to the next band, revert to the previous comfortable band setting and maintain it for a few nights before attempting to advance again.
If you are having any issues with gum or cheek irritation due to sharp edges on the device, we have provided a file that you can use to smooth any hot spots on the trimline of the device.
Follow the steps below.
Important: Always file gradually and refit the device frequently to avoid removing too much material.
If you’re experiencing discomfort on your gums or cheeks from the blue buttons or bands, dental wax is included in your kit and can help. Apply a pea-sized amount directly to the area causing irritation, usually around the edge of a band or near one of the adjustment buttons. After applying the wax, try the device to see if the discomfort improves. If not, you may need to adjust the placement or apply a bit more wax until it is comfortable. Remove and reapply daily as needed for up to a month, until the irritation goes away.
If neither the filing or wax resolves the discomfort or if you have any questions, please reach out to our Sleep Care Team at support@thedaybreak.com.
To ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your appliance, please follow these guidelines:
The Daybreak Cleaner is specially formulated to be safe for your device. If you do not have the foam cleaner, simply rinse the appliance with water and gently brush with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Do NOT use toothpaste, denture cleaning tablets, or other unapproved cleaners. Abrasives, alcohol, and other harsh chemicals contained in these other cleaners can damage the device’s surface and cause delamination and degrade the material over time. We recommend the Daybreak Ultrasonic Cleaner as another great option to keep your Daybreak Device clean and free of bacteria.
