Sleep Test Guide
Welcome to your At-Home Sleep Test powered by NightOwl™.
This test offers an easy way to evaluate whether you experience sleep-related breathing disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Preparing for your test is quick and easy. The test connects wirelessly through Bluetooth® on your mobile device. Give yourself a few minutes before your regular bedtime and follow the steps below.
1. Install the NightOwl app to activate your test
Create your Daybreak account at thedaybreak.com/start . If you’ve already created your account, log in here.
An activation code and unique link will be generated for you. This will automatically configure your test when you download the NightOwl application.
2. Preparing for your test
When you are ready to go to sleep, open the NightOwl app on your smartphone or tablet.
Click “Continue” and follow the instructions. The app provides a step-by-step guide to help you set up the test device in less than 5 minutes.
3. Testing
Helpful Hints
- Track at least 4 hours of sleep—anything less means you’ll have to redo the study.
- Keep your phone charged during the study. If your phone loses power, the test will fail.
- With the blue side of the device on your fingertip, wrap the adhesive strip comfortably around your finger. Not too tight, not too loose. Leave space for a slight gap between your finger and the strip when pulling.
- Keep your phone within 6 feet of your bed for accurate tracking.
- Close unnecessary apps so the NightOwl app runs smoothly.
- After you wake up, please store the device safely in its box. If you’re eligible for a Daybreak Device, you’ll need it for your next test!

The app will indicate the number of remaining nights required to complete testing.
On occasion, our physicians may request additional nights of testing to gain a more detailed picture of your sleep health. This is a standard part of a sleep assessment and should not be a cause for concern. If additional testing nights are needed, you will be notified promptly by text and email.
4. Store the NightOwl in a safe, dry place.
Do not discard the test device when testing is completed. Store the NightOwl in a safe place. It is critical that you DO NOT DISPOSE of your NightOwl at this time. It will be needed if you are diagnosed with sleep apnea and plan to proceed with the Daybreak treatment program.
